I loved the first in this series, and #2 didn't disappoint. I think I loved it even more. I was sucked in from the get-go, and while Johnny's obsession with his former girlfriend was irritating, the relationship between him and introverted Verity was a delight to watch unfold. I also thought the secondary characters were good and contributed to the story in believable ways, rather than just being filler or background noise. And of course, all the references and nods to Pride & Prejudice didn't hurt.… (mais)

I really enjoyed Ms. Darling's earlier books and was looking forward to this one, but this one was more of a disappointment. Sophy is determined to emigrate to Australia but must first earn money for passage, so she takes a job in her eccentric father's vintage dress shop. The story is about her education in vintage and her desire to move vs. her attraction to Charles, who furnishes vintage jewelry to the shop.
I was tilted because I got the edition that split the book into four sections distributed over the next month instead of the entire book at once. It felt like a bait and switch, but I got over that because maybe I should have checked the sales site better. I bring it up because I do feel that putting this book out as a serial impacted the pacing.
Sophy was a bit too whiny for me. In fact, most of the characters felt like they were trying too hard instead of acting like real people. I did like the ending, which had a good twist. This definitely wasn't as good as the Lonely Heart Bookshop series, but it was okay.

Super cute, simple romance novel. I needed something absolutely brainless and this was fun.

Posy becomes forced to face reality when the owner of the bookshop she works and lives in dies, leaving her the failing bookshop. If the bookstore doesn't turn a profit within a certain amount of time, Sebastian (the owner's son) will take the property. Posy and the other employees realize that the bookstore is losing lots of money, so they need to do something different. She decides to create a niche bookstore that serves only romance. Posy reads vast amounts of romance novels, making her an expert. Sebastian wants a book store that focuses on crime. Unable to stand up to him, she allows him to assume the bookstore will be crime-based.

Sebastian and Posy have pretty much grown up together. After Posy's parents died, Posy and her brother have lived above the bookstore. They don't get along great because Sebastian locked her in the coal hole and she's never gotten over it. As changes are happening, Posy finds herself writing a romance novel with her and Sebastian as the main characters.

The book made me smile. Is it great literature? Absolutely not. It's a lovely diversion from the realities of life!

Two years ago, Mattie had an abominable breakup that put her off men, romance, Paris, cupcakes, and Christmas. Now as the manager of the teashops in the Happy Ever After Bookshop, she'll have to deal with the holiday season whether she likes it or not. She'll also have to deal with Tom, the sole male employee of the bookshop and one of many men she strongly dislikes, who ends up being her roommate when the flat above the bookshop is once more vacant. As Christmas approaches, Tom and Mattie may find that their frequent verbal sparring is proof not of hate but of an entirely different emotion.

A really cute holiday romance but one that is best appreciated if you've read the three previous books in the series as this is decidedly the final book of the quartet. While I'm not a huge fan of the enemies to lovers trope, Darling does it well here while tossing plenty of holiday cheer into the mix. Plus there's some truly droolworthy food descriptions. The book ends with a bow on all of the previous relationships that developed in the series as well, so fans of the other titles should be very happy. Recommended.
