It took too long for the plot to develop, the characters were childish and immature, and the obstacles the author creates to distance the characters don't really help since the characters are so far apart anyway. I only managed to finish the book not because it's a great read but because it's so awful I wanted to see how it would end.

And her hatred is consuming her soul. Her brother's case proves to her that Blacks can't expect fair treatment, or any help uncovering the truth, from Chicago police. Rafe is a Hispanic Chicago policeman with a burning need to protect the innocent. He also believes there should be a rule against cops falling in love. But when love finds him, he won't get a say in the matter, just as his fortune-telling godmother predicted. But will Rafe's love and courage be enough to turn Angela's raging hatred into enduring love? Local author Davis tackles big issues like race relations, stereotyping, and living in a multilingual society while bringing together these two halves of one soul.… (mais)
