Richard Dawkins was educated at Oxford University and taught zoology at the University of California and Oxford University, holding the position of the Charles Simonyi Professor of the Public Understanding of Science. Na verdade, o autor começa pelo fim. Começa pelos efeitos e consequências da crença em deus, escolhe uns tantos casos ou aspectos negativos e com isso, em função desses resultados, conclui que deus é uma desilusão.
Porque esperei eu tanto de um biólogo? O homem devia dedicar-se à sua área de conhecimento. É tão fundamentalista como os homens do clero ou até mais do que alguns. Se até hoje nem profetas, nem doutores da igreja, nem teólogos, nem outros ditos sábios conseguiram provar a existência de deus, também o autor deste livro falha redondamente ao tentar provar que deus não existe. Este falhanço é mais grave do que o falhanço dos homens de religião, porque sendo um homem de ciência, o autor devia ser mais moderado e não pretender fundar uma religião anti-religiosa.
Fraco, muito fraco! O autor quer combater o criacionismo e, ao invés de se ficar pelas questões científicas, relativamente ao assunto, quer resolver o problema pela raiz e provar a não existência de deus. Para tal, reduz deus à sua descrição bíblica no Génesis e tenta mostrar que aquele deus não existe. Mas nem a maioria dos crentes acredita num deus assim! O deus bíblico evoluiu sendo hoje um deus criado pelo homem, que lhe atribuiu todas as características positivas da humanidade – foi o homem que criou deus à sua imagem e não o inverso! Um deus existe enquanto houver quem acredite nele. A sua existência não é do domínio da ciência, é do domínio da filosofia e da imaginação. Discuti-lo nesta base é uma perda de tempo.
O autor dedica largos capítulos a comparar a doutrina de Darwin com o criacionismo, apenas para mostrar que não há necessidade de deus. Isto nem sequer é um argumento! Só o é para os profundamente crentes ou descrentes! Desiludido desisti da leitura na página 393.… (mais)
