Cloak of Echoes, the second book of a daring fantasy series, follows seventeen year old Emma Kincaid as she deals with the mysterious empathic abilities that have so far shaped her life.Emma's character comes across as quirky and shy, though she possesses a natural talent for humour and is stronger than she gives herself credit for.

The story progresses quickly, with an effortless friendship forming between Emma and brooding new student, Mattox. Themes of loss and difference are key to the tale as secrets are revealed regarding Emma's unique abilities.

I enjoyed every moment of this short, but intense read. I found myself feeling every subtle emotion of Emma's character as the urgency of the scenes built up. I was eager to turn each page, excited for what would happen next.

This book is definitely on my paperback list. I would recommend it to lovers of urban fantasy and Arthurian fantasy.

Rated 5 stars.

Being the voracious book reviewer that I am, it doesn’t take me long to know what I’ve got when it comes to reading anthologies revolving around a particular genre, which in case are fantasies and fairy tales.

It gets to be rather mundane when every story one reads ends in the proverbial HEA [Happily Ever After], which is one of the reasons I found this collection to be refreshing. Faes go against basically everything we know about what should be good and decent regarding our fellow man. Being dishonest, greedy, and dominating is what drives their very existence, is what lies in the cards for humanity when the ultimate final battle of good/evil occurs.

Shades of Fae transports its readers to magical lands where mere mortals are controlled by menacing Sidhes and wicked Eleves, where despicable vampire lords confront unforgiving fae soldiers, and where a catastrophic struggle fraught with all of the fantasy, paranormal characters we’ve come to know creates environments containing unequalled risks.

When you consider all this at cost of only 99 cents [less than 4 cents/story] how can anyone go wrong, which is why I’ve given this limited-edition collection and all of its authors the 5 STARS I’ve given it.

How does the magical community spend Christmas? Well, they don’t scrub the floors. A simple wave of their had and the house is clean. I would love to be able to do that too.

BUT, Chris isn’t supposed to use magic. He’s a witch, so, like Harry Potter, he feels the need to test his abilities. He’s ahead of his class and easily bored. If he doesn’t quit getting in magical trouble, they’ll strip his powers and send him to human school.

He hates everything about Christmas, except his birthday, until….

He meets Nichole.

At first it’s fun and games, but when Nichole asks Chris for his help, he drops everything.

This sweet and innocent romance shares young puppy love, wonder and adventure, traveling the world through magic, flying through the air in Nichole’s Lamborghini.

What a sight to see.

In the magical realm, all things are possible, which is why I love to read about the paranormal and supernatural, and C K Dawn has done a wonderful creating a world of imagination and dreams that will entertain the young and old alike.

This is a fairly short story that I’d describe as a peek into the life of Abigail Thorne. Novellas and short stories take a lot to impress me because I rarely feel I get super connected with any character quickly enough. This completely goes against that. I’m caught up in the emotions of quite a few of the characters even aside from Abbey. I get a real sense of personality from each character brought into the story. I attribute this connection to the very real feelings and confusion that Abbey has. The end has me very intrigued for the continuation of the story. While this didn’t have as much of the fantasy element in it I do think it will be a valuable asset to a series involving Abbey and the world she’s a part of. I’m curious to see the impact of her past on her future and what will happen. I highly recommend this, especially for anyone that might be hesitant to start a new series.
This eGalley was provided free from the author through Good Tales Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion and I was compensated in no other manner.
