This haunted cozy mystery was a quick read. I enjoyed all of the characters, but felt the romance was pushed a little too hard. I was relieved and agreed with Camilles choices at the end, but felt the over dramatized feelings made it less believable. The mystery was well thought out, and played out well. I would read another book in this series.

REVIEW: This is a standalone book but an enjoyable option would be to start with Book 1, Death Notice. The main characters, Detective Lane Brody and journalist Monroe Donovan, continue to be intertwined in an angsty love triangle with Brody’s mentally ill wife. The Penny Killer becomes obsessed with Monroe. The plot has plenty of twists and some chilling moments as they track a psychotic killer. The morality questions are challenging but give depth to the story. Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I received this book from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.

DESCRIPTION, NOT REVIEW: Detective Lane Brody and Monroe Donovan, The Northland Chronicles' newest female crime reporter, are face-to-face with a chance for happiness. Then Brody's wife—incarcerated in a mental institution after murdering the man she took as a lover—begins to recover.

Now Monroe wants to put distance between herself and Brody, but Brody is under orders to keep Monroe close in order to nab the Penny Killer who leaves macabre gifts on his victims in Monroe's name.

As the body count rises and the Penny Killer grows more enamored with Monroe, Brody decides if he can't spend the rest of his life with the woman he loves, he'll gladly die to protect her.

Just finished Death Notice by Alicia Dean. Now this is my kind of read, twists and turns, beautiful character development, plot that unfolds like a freshly laundered sheet...The ending literally took me by surprise, I thought I had figured out! There were characters you loved, characters you hated, all strongly written. The book flowed very well. As you can see, I am not giving anything away on this one!! You will have to read this one for yourself to understand why I can't wait to follow Monroe Donovan into her next adventure.

Sabrina Spencer has a past that’s come back to haunt her. Josh Cravens doesn’t make a good first impression. Dustin may be a secondary character but he’s a special young man who will pull at your heart. Josh takes some time to warm up to. Sabrina will have you on the edge of your seat every time a piece of a mystery is revealed – not solved but revealed.

This is a different type of holiday read. If you like a mystery with some suspense then this just may be one to add to your library. It’s not heavy on the holiday theme, even though it plays a part in the story, so feel free to read it at any time of the year. The author does a great job of keeping a secret because she’s not going to reveal anything until it’s time. She doesn’t take the easy route to keep her reader entertained - she lets the characters shine. I look forward to reading more of her suspense books.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
