Deborah Digges is a poet and professor whose youngest son Stephen has hit adolescence full force. At 13, he is running away from home, hanging around with gang members, carrying weapons, doing drugs, flunking out of school, all of the things that are every parent's nightmare. The book is Deborah's story of how she dealt with the nightmare (losing her second husband along the way who "just couldn't deal with it") and how both she and Stephen came out the other side with their relationship intact. Excellent and unconventional storytelling. My only complaint (just a tiny one) is that I wish there had been more details of how Deborah managed to stay sane and not become bitter. Great story of unconditional love!… (mais)
