Born in Tokyo, son of a Foreign Service officer, lived in Thailand and Argentina before going to college in Los Angeles and grad school in New Haven, moved to NYC in 1981 and stayed for 23 years, now in Massachusetts where my wife grew up. It's great being a freelance editor in the age of the internet; you can work from anywhere.

This is a light comparison of cultures; specifically, the way different sociieties use insults and curses. It is interesting to see similarities and differences. This is really just a collection of examples, so more for a general reader than a scholar. But amusing insightful nonetheless.

Best language blog on the inet, for its fireside atmosphere, the openness to linguist-linguists as well as intrigued amateurs, and all kinds of approaches and proccupations from the philological to the sociolinguistic to the lexicographical to the literary. Dodson runs a fine establishment, and his crew of regular commentators are erudite and hilarious. http://languagehat.com.
