Pocahontas is a traditional fantasy book, it tells of a girl who is described as having a free spirit. The white man come to invade this tribes land, digging up soil and destroying trees. The indians don't see them as having any reason for this. Pocahontas falls in love with one of these men John Smith. John Smith ends up saving her fathers life but has to be taken off to get medical attention. Pocahontas knows that she will see him again someday.

This story reminds me of how greedy people can be and the things they would do to get what they want even if it results to violence.

I would have the children in class draw pictures of what they thought it was like to live with the indians. What they would wear and make picutures of their homes, the teepees or the cabins they use to live in.
