Edward Dyson (1865–1931)

Also known by the alternative title, 'Rookie Nolan's Poem', this is a humorous tribute to the pugilistic skills of Melbourne player Bernard Nolan, who was a prominent participant in a brawl between Essendon and Melbourne players on the 17 August 1907. Benno is a colourful barracker and this story is a full emersion into the larrikin vernacular of the football supporter of the early twentieth century.
