This book wasn't for me. A diary supposedly written (or, in this case, told by) a 4 year old girl was always going to be difficult to execute, and for me it didn't work. At no point did I get any sense how young Dorcas actually was, her actions and sensibilties were that of a much older child. Also, I found it disturbing to read how Dorcas was sexually abused by her father at the age of 4 and later passed around as a child prostitute. As far as I'm aware this is not based on a shred of fact and I find it unnecessary and offputting to include such a storyline. Wasn't what happened to Dorcas bad enough?… (mais)
