This is a short story, therefore it lacks that feeling of completeness, although it's very good, and the narration is outstanding.

Not every story begins in light.

Perhaps there was nothing I could have done differently. The atrocities I committed, the lives that I scorched from existence, the power I wielded with so little regard.

Or maybe it was the love that I lost? The love that my priest father had snuffed like a candle whose flame has been violently blown out.

I have destroyed, killed, manipulated, betrayed, tortured, and I have laughed at it all.

Dragons can be dangerous...if you don’t bond with them first.

Eldwin wants to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a Dragon Guard, but not for the glory. He’s determined to pass, but his maimed arm is a constant reminder of his disadvantage. Will the obstacles Eldwin faces keep him from reaching his dreams, or will he finally see what it’s like to ride the skies?… (mais)

A dragon soul is taking over human bodies and Marin finally comes face to face with her father the king. I'm not sure which is more terrifying. Overall this was a very crrative story. I was concerned at the beginning of the series because there were too many similarities to other stories, but this is definitely it's own world with it's own story. Still plenty more questions to be answered, and I'm curious to see how they will be answered. I also hope that Eldwin gets over his annoying habit of overexplaining what's going on and grows up a little in the next books.
