This text was issued to cadets at the United States Military Academy.

During my 1980's attendance at West Point, one of the many required courses was "Military Art" which provided a history of land warfare thru the ages.

One of the class options was the basic one semester course (4.5 hours/week: yes including every other Saturday) that raced thru the topics.

The other option was a 2 semester more focused class (3.5 hours/week). First semester addressed warfare up to 1914. The second semester (the good one) focused primarily on WWI and WWII with some trailing classes on the Korean War and Vietnam.

The texts from the course(s) were very thorough and somewhat technical. The two Campaign Atlases issued to cadets are very well regarded. I have seen hardbound versions of these atlases printed and for sale to the public with some very high prices online.

I remember getting to the point during my junior year when I was able to select optional courses at the Academy. I got to thinking that I was attending probably the best institution in the country for teaching military history/warfare. I would be stupid to not take advantage of at least one related class during my tenure there. These 2 classes were excellent choices. I remember our instructors bringing up displays from the West Point Museum to facilitate instruction. Neat experience.
