About the Author
Arvonne Fraser was born Arvonne Delrae Skelton in Lamberton, Minnesota on September 1, 1925. She received a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from the University of Minnesota. While working in Hubert H. Humphrey's campaign office during his first run for Senate in 1948, she met Donald M. Fraser. mostrar mais They married in 1950. She ran her husband's campaigns for the Minnesota Senate, where he served from 1954 to 1962, and for the United States House of Representatives, where he served from 1963 to 1979. During that time, she held posts with the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, including vice chairwoman from 1956 to 1962. While in Washington, D. C., she helped found and held top positions in the Women's Equity Action League. During the administration of President Jimmy Carter, she was director of the Office of Women in Development, a job she held for three years. She also traveled the world as the country's representative to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. She was a founder of the Center on Women, Gender and Public Policy at the University of Minnesota's Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Her memoir, She's No Lady: Politics, Family, and International Feminism, was published in 2007. She died on August 7, 2018 at the age of 92. (Bowker Author Biography) mostrar menos
