Thank you to Netgalley, The Experiment, Matt Frazier, Stepfanie Romine, and Rich Roll for the gracious offer of an advanced copy to read for a honest-review.

I've been falling in love a lot with cookbooks for athletes, so I jumped hard and fast when I was that this book was available for reviewing. I was incredibly excited to see how it would turn out, and I love the first few chapters, breaking down what you need to eat to feed your body. How to best take care of yourself to be reaching the most important nutrients on this path to better

The recipes were well represented and the pictures are vibrantly, detailed and well positioned.

But.

The dependence on bread/grains/starch-related foods in 95% of the recipes turned my stomach. For those that works for this will be a great resource, but in that field this book was sadly a dud for me and one I won't be able to use at all in my path to embracing healthy living and supported weightlifting.

For those parts I really loved the salads, vegetables, and smoothies, would make some really great lunch help for me in the future. Thank you, again, for the chance to review this newest cookbook for athletes eating clean, healthy and varied diets.

A vegan cookbook gear towards those who do endurance sports. I bought it as I want to eat a bit less meat than I currently do. The book is pretty good but it lacks nutritional information for the recipes which is a pretty big oversight in my opinion.

I've been a fan and follower of the No Meat Athlete blog since it began, and I was very excited about the release the book, even though I've been a vegetarian for more than 20 years. Of course, it's packed with information about starting a vegetarian/vegan diet, which is great for new vegetarians/vegans. Even long-timers like me might appreciate a refresher on the basics. But the best part is how Matt focuses on the application of a vegan diet to the athlete's lifestyle and training regimen. There are so many misconceptions about vegans and strength, and hopefully, this book will lay those myths to rest at last.

There are lots of great recipes, some that will be familiar to readers of the No Meat Athlete blog, and the formula format for smoothies and bars is super handy. (I have not tried any recipes from the book, but I have been pleased with everything I made from the blog's recipes.) Not being a runner, I sort of lost interest in the training section, as it is geared specifically to foot racing. There is a short cross-training section that teases out other activities. But I still found the book motivating, as its principles apply to my activities of choice (yoga/cycling), and just knowing that there are elite vegan athletes out there is inspiring.

No Meat Athlete, Revised and Expanded by Matt Frazier, Matt Ruscigno

A Plant-Based Nutrition and Training Guide for Every Fitness Level—Beginner to Beyond [Includes More Than 60 Recipes!]

Having dabbled a bit with the idea of moving toward a plant-based vegan diet and wanting to become more fit through diet and exercise I quickly requested this book when it came up on NetGalley. I may never run a marathon but do see that becoming healthier is a decision and not just something to contemplate and write goals about. That statement, and some of the recipes in the book, will be what I take away from and use for life. I enjoyed the personal anecdotes and complete information on creating training programs. I enjoyed reading that it is not all or nothing but a process moving forward and that one builds on accomplishments so not overwhelmed. As with other books of this genre the author gives tips and rules and recipes and plans that work for him but one does come away with these ideas and also with ways to adapt and move forward on a personal path as well.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes

Will I apply what I read in my own life? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Fair Winds Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
