Maybe I don't want to read my 5 year old a book about tightrope walker walking between the world trade center buildings illegally. It is written well and with good illustrations that has very interesting perspectives and at essential to the storytelling. This anxious mama still does not want to read it to a kid.

The cover says, "It's easy and fun!" Ha! Kindergarten to 2nd graders will have a good time with this earnestly absurd story. It's really more of an instruction book, so it could probably use a disclaimer, but I'm glad there's not one. If a kids asks to borrow your old garden hose, you'll know what they're up to...

Another meta-book that's probably sophisticated enough for 5th graders (who rarely read picture books) so I fear it may never be read.

This one has a little girl who wonders what her story will be about. She travels through different genres, dismissing them all as not right for her. The best part is probably the way the book is angled so you really feel like you're looking down at the characters and they're looking up at you. At one point the girl even looks up and comments on your crazy reader face.… (mais)
