Alessandro Ghebreigziabiher

Alessandro Ghebreigziabiher is an author, playwright, actor, storyteller, teacher and theater director. He has published about twenty books, including nine novels, anthologies of short stories, fairy tales for children, publications for the schools, storytelling plays and recently also an essay on italian colonialism's crimes. He was born in Naples in 1968 to an Eritrean father and an Italian mother. He is a forerunner among black italian writers, a precursor afro-italian artist, being also one of the very first afro-italian theatre actors and playwright in italian history. However, the definition that he still prefers today is born between two Souths, Africa and Naples. He currently lives in Rome.
Since almost thirty years Ghebreigziabiher conducted workshops and experiential laboratories on theatre, storytelling and social animation in clinical and therapeutic institutions, as much as drug addiction rehabilitation and mental health communities, in several conferences on education subjects offered to professionals.
He is a graduate in computer science from Sapienza University, Rome, where he also studied acting with Saverio D'Ercole. He attended many acting courses, one in particular with Gary Brackett from The Living Theatre of New York. From 1994 to 2002 he attended meetings on managing and leading a group by the psychoanalyst Harold Bridger (founding member of the Tavistock Institute).
His first book, Sunset (Tramonto, Italian edition, Lapis, 2002, Tempesta Editore, 2017), in 2003 was selected by the International Youth Library (IYL), in Munich, Germany, for the White Ravens, a mention for children books from around the world that they consider to be especially noteworthy.
Many of his stories and articles have been published on various literary and cultural magazines.
He is among the coordinators of the International Storytelling Network. In 2005 he created the Theatre Storytelling Laboratory, becoming artistic director of the Italy Theatre Storytelling Festival, “The gift of diversity”. In 2016 he founded the international network of narrators Storytellers for Peace.

Italian Bio: Alessandro Ghebreigziabiher è uno scrittore, drammaturgo, attore, narratore, docente e regista teatrale. È autore di circa venti libri, tra cui una decina di romanzi, antologie di racconti brevi, fiabe per ragazzi, testi per le scuole, narrazioni teatrali e di recente anche un saggio sui crimini del colonialismo italiano.
È nato a Napoli nel 1968 da padre eritreo e madre italiana. Per tali ragioni può essere descritto come uno scrittore afroitaliano, di colore o nero, di seconda generazione o semplicemente italiano di origine africana. Tuttavia, la definizione che preferisce ancora oggi è nato tra due Sud, quello del mondo, l'Africa, e quello d'Italia, Napoli. Attualmente vive a Roma.
Da trent'anni conduce laboratori di teatro, narrazione e animazione sociale in ambito clinico e terapeutico in comunità di recupero, centri di salute mentale e varie realtà del sociale e del sanitario, in particolare con adolescenti, oltre a intervenire in vari convegni sul tema dell'educazione rivolti a professionisti del settore.
Come formazione, oltre ad aver conseguito una laurea in Scienze dell'informazione all'università Sapienza, di Roma, ha studiato recitazione tra gli altri con Saverio D'Ercole e frequentato negli anni vari laboratori e corsi teatrali, tra cui uno stage con spettacolo conclusivo diretto da Gary Brackett del Living Theatre. Inoltre, dal 1994 al 2002 ha partecipato a incontri sulla gestione e la conduzione di un gruppo a cura dello psicanalista Harold Bridger (membro fondatore del Tavistock Institute).
Il suo primo libro, Tramonto (Edizioni Lapis, 2002, Tempesta Editore, 2017), nel 2003 è stato premiato dall'International Youth Library (IYL, Monaco) con il White Ravens, un riconoscimento ai libri per ragazzi di tutto il mondo ritenuti di speciale valore.
Molti testi sono stati pubblicati in varie riviste letterarie e di attualità.
Come narratore e attore teatrale hanno ascoltato le sue storie in molti festival e rassegne. È tra i coordinatori del network internazionale di storytelling Red Internacional de Cuentacuentos.
Nel 2005 ha creato il Laboratorio di teatro narrazione Il dono della diversità e dal 2006 al 2019 è stato il direttore artistico dell'omonima Rassegna.
Nel 2016 ha fondato la rete internazionale di narratori Storytellers for Peace.
Dal 2007 pubblica video storie sul proprio canale Youtube e dal 2008 scrive su Storie e Notizie con cui propone racconti spesso ispirati da fatti realmente accaduti.
