An effervescent amuse-bouche (recipe within!) for anyone with a palate for Firbank, Pasti, Wilmot, Wittkop, Petronius, Aretino, Suetonius. Not for the burger and fries crowd. Clearly.

Highlights the importance of mediocre work: like a single course in a regimented meal plan which is hearty but barely merits mention — think boiled meats and potatoes. The gloss and glam of these nomadic fin-de-siècle reprobates has become fairly dim and developed a moderate patina over the years, but you might as well pick it up as a palette cleanser between more elaborate headache-inducing tomes (here’s looking at you, Ulysses

Beardsley is more of an artist than a writer apparently, the drawings in this are quite odd looking. Its about a man who goes to a party under the hill much like the opera above, except Venus is referred to as Helen in this instance.
After the party the protagonist does a sort of list of his favorite erotic pictures and novels and then its pretty much over.

I gave this book to Sandra, my fiancé. We planned a very strict Female Led Marriage. I vowed to "Love, Honor, Obey, and Submit" at our wedding. Took Her surname. Stemwedel. Sandra studied the tome, and related material, thoroughly. MY FIRST WHIPPING HARNESS! Nose-to-toes Depilation! Estrogen Injections! And much much more. My handsome, ultra-masculine father-in-law approves. Robert knows several FLR couples.
