About the Author

Arlene Harriet Gottfried was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 26, 1950. She received a camera as a teen and began talking pictures as she walked around her Coney Island neighborhood. She took photography courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. Afterward, she found work mostrar mais doing commercial photography at an advertising agency. In the mid-1970s, she became a freelance photographer. Her work sporadically appeared in The New York Times, The Village Voice, Fortune, and Life. She published several books including The Eternal Light, Midnight, Sometimes Overwhelming, Bacalaitos and Fireworks, and Mommie. She became a gospel singer in the 1990s with the Eternal Light Community Singers in Harlem. She began appearing with choirs at gospel festivals and eventually emerged as a soloist.
