About the Author

James Grant (1822-1887) was a Scottish author. He was born in Edinburgh, and was a distant relation of Sir Walter Scott. Grant was a prolific author, writing some 90 hooks, including many yellow-backs. Good for its time of publication, could be seen as a bit one sided 125 years later, but that's hindsight, as a reference work it is good to use as a base and then start to add and hopefully improve on the military detail of the various battles, good maps.
