Scarsdale: From Colonial Manor to Modern Community por Harry Hansen
I read only excerpts about the town I grew up in, still spend a lot of time in and love. Note to self, shelved at 974.727, it's the kind of book I may return to. While I will not read it cover-to-cover, there are parts that are fascinating to me. I learn where many local roads and landmarks get their name, for example.

I will be back.

By Harry Hansen: The Civil War: A History
This book was written in 1961, but has held up pretty well over the years. He has chapters regarding all the significant battles, as well as portions about social events like Presidential elections and slavery issues. The section on Gettysburg was well done. His style is to break down battle participants into division and brigade units by commander, and at times mentions specific regiments that I find interesting.

I think this work merits more attention than it gets. The battles are summarized pretty compactly, and the book serves as a great overview of the conflict.… (mais)
