VB READS...MOTHERHOOD BY THE BOOK, FIVE QUARTERS OF THE ORANGE Motherhood by the Book is led by Claire, VB staffer, mother of a toddler, and stepmother of an adolescent. The book group meets on the second Sunday of every month at 2pm on the mezzanine level, next to our poetry section and near the Book Fare Cafe, for an hour of spirited discussion of books that celebrate the trials, tribulations, and rewards of motherhood, and what it means to be a mother. This group is by no means exclusive to moms with kids still at home, but much of the selection may be geared toward issues that those moms face. We will read fiction, non-fiction, and parenting books.

| Nota biográfica | Informação do Conhecimento Comum em inglês. Edite para a localizar na sua língua. Joanne Harris was born in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England, to a French mother and an English father. She was educated at Wakefield Girls' High School, and then read modern and medieval languages at Cambridge University. For 15 years, she taught modern languages, mostly at Leeds Grammar School, and taught French literature and film at Sheffield University. During this period, she wrote fiction. Her debut novel, The Evil Seed, was published in 1989. It was followed by Sleep, Pale Sister (1993), a literary ghost story. In 1999, she published her third novel, Chocolat. Subsequent works have included two sequels to Chocolat; several psychological thrillers, including Five Quarters of the Orange (2001); two French cookbooks co-written with Fran Warde; and two collections of short stories. She received the MBE in 2013.  | |
