Fun fun fun. Realistic? Not entirely, but I was glued. It was a blast rooting for a group of degenerates to do what nobody thought they could. I’d highly recommend this quick read.

Not much of a story. Seems to be a throw away. Grady could have done better than this. The hype was not worth it for the "Amazon Creature Feature" collection so far.

This is a surprisingly dark book- I was expecting something more.... light. This isn't to say the book was bad - instead it was good, very very good. Managing to capture the absurdity of being an upper middle class wife in a community that prides itself on "traditional" values.

This book has more to say about how monsters are made and allowed to thrive when money and power are at stake. The vampire in this story is evil. But what is even more evil is that poor black kids are disappearing, and no-one cares. Or that this community will turn a blind eye towards obvious abuse, calling it something else.

Where the story shines, is not that it has a vampire in it. But that it calls out the hypocrisy of this community, more worried about looks than actual people, and it does it in a way that is both scary, but also funny.

I truly thought there would never be a scarier puppet/toy book that was worse than the Slappy the Dummy Goosebumps books I read as a kid, but I was WRONG. Hendrix has really outdone himself on just going batshit wild with the creep factor in "How to Sell a Haunted House" and all the horrors he presents here. There were a couple plot points where things got a touch weak, but overall this book has some of the strongest horror writing, atmosphere, and development I've read; the whole thing felt like a masterclass in "How to Traumatize Your Reader and Make Them Lie Awake at Night Regretting Reading Your Book at Such a Late Hour". There is one scene in here that made me physically ill and I had to set the book down for a while.
It's a total emotional ride that weaves together death and grief, addressing generational and family traumas, and how families can be the ones who know how to hurt you or help you better than anyone else.
