Summary:
A Puppy for You is a book for higher level readers of the K-2nd age group. The book goes through all of the steps that should be taken when a family decides that they want to add a puppy to their house as a pet. The book covers all ranges of topics from choosing a breed to how to properly train your pet.

Review:
Although this book is in the range of a K-2nd grade reading level I think that it is too high of a level for kindergarteners and possibly some first graders. The information in the text is great for preparing children for a new pet to enter into the household. I like that the author is speaking directly to the reader, such as "when you bring home your puppy." By using this context of voice, children can quickly relate the text to their own lives rather than solely reading a story about another character getting a pet for the first time. The book is roughly 45 pages, so this also ties into the appropriateness of the level for children. Using this book is good way to transition children into reading chapter books.… (mais)
