This book shows children not to give up on their dreams and to keep trying no matter what doubts come your way. Even though the dogs ran most of town, the Hip Cat found his crowd and made himself known for playing his sax very well because thats what he was good at and made everyone happy and entertained. He found his passion and followed his dream of getting himself out of a tent and to pay rent. It motivates those to keep going and never give up.

A cute story told in skat verse about a cat who loves to blow on his horn. There is a small lesson of feelings and emotions tied to it. This book reminds me of another book I read "Skit Skat Raggedy Cat", how Ella Fitzgerald became famous. It teaches children to do what they love and do it well.

Hip Cat is a jazzy poem about a hip cat who loved to play his sax. He was the best around but the dogs wouldn’t let him play at their clubs because he was a cat and the cat club could not pay him. Though he went through hard times, he never gave up on what he loved and did well. In the end it paid off.
