Theodosia Maria Toll -- later Foster -- was a close friend of Isabella Macdonald Alden, who wrote under the pseudonym Pansy. Docia, as Isabella called her, rescued Isabella's first novel "Helen Lester" from the fireplace and submitted it to be judged in the contest it was written for. The result was Pansy's first published book in 1865. Docia herself used the pen name Faye Huntington, and produced 31 books in her career. The two friends co-authored a number of books, and Docia was a regular contributor to The Pansy Magazine. The close-knit family group of the Aldens (Isabella, husband Rev. G.R. Alden, and their son Raymond), the Livingstons (Isabella's sister Marcia, husband Rev. C.M. Livingston, and daughter Grace) and Docia also produced a few works together. Her family's life is recounted in the book "Home School for Girls" by Annie HanChett Coddington.
