I enjoyed this book and the message behind it. I would love to include this book in my future classroom for kids if they are ever feeling left out or discouraged about going to a sleepover at someones house. This book would be good for a 5th grade reading level

This is a book about two boys. One boy goes over to the other boys house for a sleepover and realizes he doesn't have pjs because his family doesn't have enough money to afford them. He becomes embarrassed about not having pjs. Eventually he is proud of where he comes from and at the end he gets his pjs.

This is a good example of a contemporary realistic fiction because the story about Jerome and Robert seems like it could take place today as there are many young people from different socioeconomic backgrounds who are friends. The events of staying at each others house and sleeping in one's underwear and feeling ashamed or proud of one's family customs are everyday occurrences that readers can relate to.

Genre: Realism Fiction
Age Appropriateness: grade 3 and up
Review:Jerome and Robert are good friends but they come from families with different social-economic backgrounds. One day Robert and Jerome have great fun on a weekend sleepover. When bedtime comes Jerome is uncomfortable because Robert has a pair of blue pajamas, a luxury that Jerome had never experienced having. He lied about the truth that he does not wear pajama to go to sleep. When Jerome come back home, he asked his dad to if he can buy a pajama for him but his dad could not afford to buy one for him. He is quieter than ever until someday, his grandma come and visit me and his dad put an old faded table cloth on the table. HIs dad explain that he grew up with this old piece of cloth and there has been such laughing around this tablecloth, it could tell his own jokes. Jerome eventually feel much better and he ask Robert to sleep over at his apartment and give him a pair of new underwear.
I think it is a realism fiction because it is similar to historical fiction, except the story is based on current events. It features child as their main character, present a real world problem or challenge and show how the character solve the problem.
