Celestial Bodies: How to Look at Ballet por Laura Jacobs

I've always been fascinated with ballet, having taken lessons when I was a child and again when I was 30 years old. The author makes ballet accessible to the layperson by discussing its history, many of its premier dancers through the ages, its famous presentations such as "Swan Lake," "La Sylphide," etc., the important positions such as arabesque and pointe, reading a program, the components of a dance troupe, composers, choreographers, and on and on. If you're a fan of ballet, casual or otherwise, you should enjoy this book.… (mais)

Celestial Bodies: How to Look at Ballet por Laura Jacobs

I teach ballet, and its always refreshing to read new books related with my passion. This review its a little bit late, but I have to say that it was a great reading.
I think every person involved with the world of dance will enjoy this book a lot, it’s very clear the passion in this book,

Celestial bodies : how to look at ballet por Laura Jacobs

This is a wonderful book. Jacobs writes gracefully, poetically, musically to give us an expansive look at this complex art form. Her book covers the history of classical ballet, discusses in detail several works of the standard repertoire, surveys basic technique, and looks at the lives and contributions to the art of a number of great dancers and choreographers. What more could one ask for -- except to see some of the performances Jacobs writes about?
