I must confess to having a vested interest in this book since I was one of the beta readers.
That said this story has so much going for it. From the glorious cover to the western setting this book tells a tale of not one but two broken men. One physically and one emotionally.
In a sub genre where formula seems to be the norm this quietly understated book gives you a whole lot more while giving you less.
Suspicious townsfolk. Storms. Villains. And their own damn issues. What more could stand in the path of true love. Luckily they're aided by a feisty sister, a few friends and the sheriff (and his deputy).
An great first novel with the promise of more to come.… (mais)

An extended epilogue to book 1 with Caleb and Jacob returning 'home' to be married.

This is a lovely way to reconnect with the characters several years after the end of book one. There is a small amount of angst but overall it is a sweet tale of acceptance and coming home.
I like that the author didn't take the obvious route with regard to Jacob's family The appearance of Jacob's mother at the wedding wouldn't have felt right.
I sometimes struggle with the way kids are portrayed in stories but the children here are delightful esp Tad.
A gorgeous little sequel.
Now I can't wait to get my hands on the next book of the series. Mal's story!… (mais)
