About the Author
Marilyn Johnson is a former editor and writer for Life, Esquire, and Outside magazines. She is the author of The Dead Beat: Lost Souls, Lucky Stiffs, and the Perverse Pleasures of Obituaries, This Book Is Overdue!: How Librarians and Cybrarians Can Save Us All, and Lives in Ruins: Archaeologists mostrar mais and the Seductive Lure of Human Rubble. A sampler book. Enjoyed the parts on forensic anthropology and modern day "monuments men" particularly
Former editor of Esquire and Life staffer, Johnson pursues the people behind one of her interests, reading newspaper obits. She meets with several of the most followed obit writers in NYC and London, and attends an obit writers convention in New Mexico. She studies the various styles of obit by newspapers big and small, and looks at what sets the great obit apart from the standard. She discusses the obits of the famous and great obits written about the non-famous, and talks to writers who took on the post-9/11 obits.

Well, who else would read this book except a librarian wannabe? I loved it. I had no idea about what the "new" librarians or information specialists or organizers of the world or whatever you want to call these wonderful people, were doing with the huge shift in everything technological. I am so jealous of librarians! They are soooooo cool!
