ENGLISH REVIEW

A Christian sect in Norway is brutally attacked on their farm. The attack kills many, while some members inexplicably disappear. The police also find a high-tech laboratory when they arrive at the crime scene. All indications point to that an Islamic group is behind the mass murder, but policemen Kafa Iqbal and Fredrik Beier discover that they are a larger conspiracy on the tracks, consisting of a group of eugenics scientists who met in the 1930s in Vienna.

**********

The Secret Brotherhood from Vienna is a well-written and intriguing debut novel. We get to follow two storylines in the book one in the present time and one in the past. In the present day, policemen Kafa Iqbal and Fredrik Beier are investigating the brutal assault on a farm in Norway and in the past storyline, we get a flashback to the 40s that provides an explanation for what is happening in the present.

I think the book is very interesting because the first impression is that an Islamist group is behind it all. But, is it really so, or is it just a diversion, a conspiracy? The book becomes more and more compelling to read as the story progress and soon one can discern a common thread that what was going on back in the 40s has a big connection with what is happening at the present time. Then the awful truth is revealed. Since this is a trilogy must book the course end with a frustrating cliffhanger. Now I just wait for book sequel to come out.

I came to like Kafa Iqbal and Fredrik Beier very much. However, I had hard not to think of Kafka every time Kafa was mentioned by name. But, it was my own special little problem. They were a good team and I look forward to reading more about them in the next book.

I found The Secret Brotherhood of Vienna was very interesting to read. Perfect if you like to read conspiracy books or are just looking for a well-written thriller.

Dual review with Swedish first and then English!

ENGLISH REVIEW

A secret military operation in the Soviet Union goes wrong.

Twenty-five years later, two corpses are found in Oslo at short intervals. Is it a matter of vengeance, or does anyone want to cover their tracks? The issues are becoming increasingly burning to solve and police officers, Kafa Iqbal and Fredrik Beier is trying to puzzle together all the threads. Who is Kalypso? Why does she have to die?

The successor to the successful debut The secret brotherhood from Vienna has been celebrated as a masterful thriller: "Ingar Johnsrud continues to create criminal literature at the international top level."

**********

I read The secret brotherhood from Vienna last year and it was a brilliant book I was looking forward to reading the sequel Kalypso. And you know what? This book is even better. I liked the story of The Secret Brotherhood from Vienna, but I found the story in Kalypso's incredibly captivating. At first, the book has so many different storylines that did not seem to have much in common, but the more the time went, and the story of the book progressed did the different storylines show that there were connections between different murder cases in the present time and an operation in the Soviet Union twenty-five years earlier.

Kafa Iqbal and Fredrik Beier has to work hard to find the answers to a mystery that originated twenty-five years earlier. The question is who is Kalypso, what's her connection to the mystery in the Soviet Union so many years before? The book is very compelling to read, with connections to the previous book, The secret brotherhood from Vienna and now I'm really looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

The second volume in the Fredrik Beier series was also very impressive and exciting. After Beier was injured at the end of the first volume, he is now returning to the police force. Still grumpy with himself and the environment, he sees a traitor behind every person, even those who are close to him and love him.
As with the first book, the author switches between different times. This time from the beginning of the 90s to today. After the Cold War, there was a lot going on on the border between Norway and Russia in the far north, as it was rumored that the Russians had a biological weapons laboratory. Some Norwegian soldiers from a special unit were investigating this case. Why do these men and women have to die brutally now?
His loved ones and best colleagues are also worried about Beier and end up in mortal danger.
