Christopher and his parents visit a pumpkin farm. They are looking for a pumpkin for Halloween, but as it's a beautiful autumn day, the farm is packed with families and there are long queues. Christopher is quite bored as it's such a long wait wherever they go.
His dad has a fun idea, once they have purchased their pumpkin, he wraps his jacket and scarf round the bottom of it and makes the pumpkin talk.
"Hello, I'm Jack." says the pumpkin to the young boy and Christopher is excited. All the boredom is forgotten and when they finally reach home, Jack is put on the windowsill, where he stays until Halloween.

When the little boy comes home from school the next day, Jack is gone, his spot at the window empty. Christopher's mother has baked a delicious pumpkin pie as a sweet surprise, but her son has none of it and is very upset. Jack was his friend and now he's gone forever.
But his mother hands Christopher the seeds which she has kept from Jack. She says to him, they are Come Back Jack seeds.
They have to be planted in their garden und Christopher has to say every day " Come Back, Jack!" and then the magic will work and next year for Halloween Jack will be back on the windowsill.
But does it really work? Will Jack be back?

It's a lovely story with beautiful, brightly coloured illustrations, which really transmit the autumn feeling. Children will understand, that nothing is really lost in the circle of life. Every end is also a beginning. Kids will also be inspired to grow their own Halloween pumpkin from seeds.
I read the story at bedtime to my son (he's 4) and he liked it a lot.
