MemorialSardoShoahDL | Aug 31, 2019 | Summary:
Hotel Boy is a picture book biography about a five year old boy name Henri and his family. They moved from South Carolina to New York City when Henri was three years old. When their apartment in NYC city burns down, they’re forced to move into a hotel until there social worker is able to help them find a new home. Henri and his family must adjust to their new home, environment and school. Henri and his brother play and adventure through the city. Henri is afraid that he won’t be able to make new friends at school, but once he finally does, his family must move again. His mother finds an apartment and Henri and his family must move and readjust to their next new home.
Comments (opinions/arguments):
I liked this story because I feel it could be relatable for any child who is going through a big change either in their life or with their family. For Henri and his family, they had to move from an apartment to a hotel room that was crowed and cramped and in a new part of town. I like that the story is non-fiction and is told through Henri as the narrator. I think this makes it easier for children to connect with the story and feel as if it actually is real. I think the real photographs make a big difference too! Overall, the central message of this story is to tell about a young boys simple struggle of moving around, but that through it all he learns a lot about the world and himself.… (mais)
