My first read/listen from author Lloyd Keith was not my typical read. A non-fiction work detailing the history of the fur trade in the northwest US. Highly detailed & well-written, this book may not be for everyone but I found it enjoyable. Bill Nevitt’s narration made the 10-hour 56-minute book pass quickly. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Although my usual turf and time involves the Northwest Territories of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the fur trade is a fascinating segment of history as is the Pacific Rim trade of the early nineteenth century. It is a very long and involved educational tool that I really wouldn't have been drawn to if it was only available in print, but it's in audio and narrated by Bill Nevitt so I had to have it! Some of the book could be boring lecture dull if not for the narrator's skills in maintaining the reader's interest. I don't mean to disparage the writing or material, but it is almost eleven hours!
I requested and received a free audio copy and plan to read it again later now that I know more than I did.

The Fur Trade Gamble: North West Company on the Pacific Slope, 1800 1820 by Lloyd Keith, John C. Jackson
Narrated by: Bill Nevitt
This is an Audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
This is a very detailed book and describes so much about about the fur trade during that time. The Companies, Indian encounters, trips, hardships, and so much more. I just keeping thinking about how frozen it is now and with all the modern conveniences we have, it is still horrible. They had to deal with the elements, following into the frozen river, finding food, staying warm, and traveling in the uncivilized land.
The narration was clear and easy to listen to. I enjoy history novel.
