I'm not going to hold the errors against the author... This was a pretty good book. The plot is something new and the story is actually pretty well told. Good job!

Haven is a rich men's paradise built to cover a sealed in valley. A force-field dome protects the inhabitants from a disease-ridden world. Above live the descendants of the uber-rich, and below live those who didn't qualify for the 'good life'. Below is a dim place, divided up between gangs and tribes, all squabbling over what food is left. Life above is luxurious but regimented, as the First Citizen rigidly controls information and behaviour. This is the story of those below finally getting a leader who can pull all the tribes together in a push to overthrow the cruel oppression of those above.

This story strained my 'suspension of disbelief' at times. After so many years of being abandoned, I can't imagine how there could be enough food left in the down below to feed a cat, let alone the hundreds or possibly thousands who live there. The story didn't really engage me on other levels, either. I'm not even sure why....
I don't know if there is a second book, but the end left me dangling. However, I don't like it enough to seek out another book.

The reason why I bought this book was that I am a great SF and Fantasy fan. I will not go into all the typos, grammar and at times odd sentence structure as I feel most people have done so already. English is not my first language but even I stumbled a lot.
However I thought the concept of the story itself was brilliant, engaging and well paced even so there were a lot of lengthy fighting scenes.
This book could become an excellent SF series if worked out and on a little bit more. I felt there were too many loose ends and the characters (which are actually very likeable) would benefit from more depth and detail as they were very onedimensional. The ending of the book left me disappointed as it left a lot of my questions unanswered.
It would have been interesting to know how this world with this city of two layers came about. Why could people from down below don't go anywhere else? What were the borders of the city 'down below' and 'up'? What is the down below?
I know if this book would be rewritten in a more detailed and descriptive way I definately would read it again as I just think that the concept of the book is brilliant.
Because of the lack of depth, detail and a lot of unanswered questions only 3 stars.
