I happened to read this book while I was out of town at my son’s PeeWee hockey tournament. It was definitely appropriate timing. I enjoyed the story so much, I told all the boys on his team that they should get the book.
Everyone I have ever known that play hockey, will tell you that tight bonds are formed with their team mates. Therefore, it was interesting seeing how the once rivals; relationships progressed throughout the book.
The story was told from the viewpoint of Luke Kopf. I liked his honesty about his feelings. His character, along with the others, seemed believable.
I really enjoyed Jean-Baptiste Legant aka JB the new French-Canadian kid who recently moved to Great River from Vancouver and before that lived in Montreal. His love for hockey and lack of prejudice helped the team.
Bench Brawl was well-written and very credible. It is an inspirational story that any athlete could appreciate. It also contains valuable life lessons. Readers of all ages would enjoy this book.
