More turns and twists than a roller coaster. This is a character driven novel that keeps on speeding to the end. There are mysteries within mysteries, but all are solved by the end.
Jeanne, a lawyer and beginning belly dancer, is putting on a show with her teacher at a club when fire breaks out. She witnesses her teacher fleeing to the basement to rescue some heirloom costumes. After the fire is put out, two bodies are discovered- one is a female , Burnett to death in the basement and the other is part owner of the club, shot sometime during this event. The police discover it is arson and concentrate on the murder. Grieving for her friend, Jeanne draws together an assortment of talented friends and acquaintances to help her find the reason the fire was set. General hate crime or something more personal.
These are very intelligent and very lucky people who find everything they search for with no problems, but it is set off by lots of light touches and verbal sparring.
Altogether it was a very enjoyable read, if a little complicated. This book was an ARC free from NetGalley.… (mais)
