I liked this book for three reasons. First, I like the writing and organization of this book. Like most biographical books, the chapters follow the timeline of the person's life starting from early childhood to present day or in sometimes death. What I liked about the organization of this biographical book was how each chapter of the book/chapter of Michael Jordan's life was equally talked about. I've read a lot of biographies where so much of the information is focused on the adult portion of the person's life so it was nice to read a biography with just as much info on the childhood of Michael Jordan as his basketball career. Second, I really liked the accuracy of this nonfiction book. For example, in the second chapter, the book writes about the childhood story of Michael Jordan swimming in the ocean with his friend and his friend drowning. It explains how Jordan couldn't save him because he couldn't swim and still can't swim to this day. That's the type of accurate information that no one really knows about the star athlete. The third thing that I liked about this book was the illustrations and written text. All the pictures in the book are actual photos of Jordan with each photo having a small written text underneath it explaining the photo. For example, one of the photos is of Jordan during a game bent over, sticking his tongue out. The text under the photo reads, "Jordan's famous tongue lets his competitors know he's hard at work". The message of the biography is to inform readers about the childhood, high school, collegiate, professional, and personal life of the NBA superstar Michael Jordan. Through photos, real life stories, and statistics this book gets 4/5 rating.… (mais)

Michael Jordan: Star Guard is a biographic chapter book about NBA legend Michael Jordan written by Ron Knapp and published 1994 by Ron Knap. This is a really good book that focuses on Michael Jordan and his basketball career from University of Carolina to the NBA and the Chicago Bulls. What I found interesting in this book were: Michal Jordan’s statistics, the writing, and the point of view. Some of the statistics written in this book really help it to come alive and help me to get to know Michael Jordan more. One of the most surprising statistics for me was his points- per game average. This is the average points that a player scored in a game. As of this book publishing date Jordan leads some of the NBA’s best at 32.3 points a game. The writing in this book is very engaging and organized. There is a part in the book where the author describes Michael’s first game in Chicago in a bull’s uniform. The writing at this point really comes alive and visual. The writing grabs you and does not let go. The author describes how the fans at the stadium were extremely excited to see him and see if he is worth all of the hype. What I liked the most about the writing is that the author organized his work so well that you can easily follow the book back to the beginning. At the end of the story, in the chapter Dreams Do Come True, the writing becomes very inspirational and uplifting. The author writes about how hard Jordan had to work and train for his all star and MVP career. He adds that if you follow your dreams and try hard, you can succeed in anything at life. The point of view in this book really helped me to see Michael Jordan from an unbiased and outside view. The chapter book is written in 3rd person. I like third person because this always lets us look at the main character from an unbiased view. In the book I got to see things that really affected Michael Jordan in his career from a different perspective. What I liked was how the author wrote about ho Michael would handle hecklers. He would just play on. Resilience, determination, and perseverance are strong themes in this book. Michael Jordan bust preserver through absolute tragedies, like his father’s murder, to triumph in his sport. He must be detriment to do, and be the best he can in practice and in the game. Michael Jordan is written in this book as a resilient character who can overcome many obstacles.… (mais)
