A year in the life of a 14 year-old girl who made her own way through difficult circumstances as best as she could, which was very good at all. She saw nothing important clearly, although she thought she did. But reality got her anyway. Her story is the underlife of all the cities we've ever been in, the fact its fiction is irrelevant because you know its true.
I gave it four stars because I can't honestly say I enjoyed the book, but it was, once I got into it, such an amazing read, I read it through the night. I'm left with the impression that the author knows too much of stuff the rest of us would rather not and certainly the heroine of her story didn't want to know either.
There is another review saying the book is written in dialect - don't be put off, the only difference between standard English and the book, is leaving off the final g of 'ing' words, like readin instead of reading.
