In this first installment of the trilogy Luna is what appears to be your average high school student, not a part of the in crowd but that's ok with her, she doesn't like them anyway, and she has her best friend Violet to hang out with. Chance is the most handsome and popular boy in school. Popular with everyone but Luna that is. She can't stand him, yet he stalks her on a daily basis. Other girls would love to have his attention but he is only interested in Luna and will not take no for an answer.
I thought this was gearing up to be your typical stalker thriller, but there is more to it than that. Chance has the ability not just to mess with Luna in this world but can even invade and control her dreams. There is a reason Luna is the only one who sees through Chance's false charm. There is a reason Luna is afraid to tell what she knows, and maybe nobody would believe her anyway. This story has a lot of elements going on at once. I hate to say maybe it was too many, but in a way for me it seemed to muddy up the story line a bit. There is a lot of action and suspense in this young adult thriller, and while it left me anxious to find out where it was heading and what would happen next there were some things that bothered me. Luna's home life left a bit to be desired. Her mother is only described as a strict business woman, other than that she is not really in the picture. This leaves Luna alone with her father David whose actions felt very unrealistic to me. (For example "punishing" Luna by forcing her to go to dinner and a dance.) On the one hand Luna is afraid for her life and the lives her friends (with good reason I might add!) yet on the other hand she is also easily manipulated with just a threat of being grounded. I did enjoy parts of this very creative tale.

I'm amazed at the author's skill in keeping my attention. Never did my interest wane. This was a long monologue by an ostensibly unlikeable person, so it was no mean feat to keep it convincing and keep the pages turning.

Lilith is an eighteen year old who grew up believing she was unequipped (had no magic), injured as a child by magic causing her to be labeled a cripple. Lilith's inner dialogue makes it sound like she needs all this help because of her injury but it's clear that while she has some limitations she's ambulatory all by herself, so this was weird to read.

As Lilith's class nears the time for their Arcane Ceremony Lilith discovers she has telekentic powers. She doesn't have a lot of control over her powers, and her testing on animals really made me dislike her initially, and it took some time before I began to warm up to her.

She grew up on Ignus and should have pyrokentic powers not telekentic and she's freaked out how her friends, family and coven will react to her power not being the same as her covens.

Lilith's Arcane Ceremony reveals more about her than she expected at the same time a rival Coven wishing to take down the current ruling Coven attacks one of the Council. This event is the start of Lilith's journey down the rabbit hole. It will lead to her finding out more about her world, the fairies and her past.

This first book in the trilogy will leave you with more questions than answers, There's some suspension of belief items for me that kept pulling me out of the story but it does have some interesting characters. This story will leave you hanging so if you don't like that sort of thing you may want to wait until the next installment has been released so you can have it ready to read as soon as you finished this one.

I received a free copy of this book through Booksirens, am voluntarily leaving a review. More of my reviews can be found at https://wyldheartreads.wordpress.com/

3.75 of 5 stars

Listened to audio narrated by Lynn Norris.

Lilith has been taken by the Elementals where she get's surprise after surprise, everything she thought she knew was a lie. She must learn how fit in with her new coven, as well as use her new found powers because the war is only ramping up.

I enjoyed this second book more than the first but I still struggled with Lilith's immaturity and temper tantrums and very self-absorbed behavior. I realize this is a YA but I had hoped Lilith would have shown more growth in this second installment, maybe it will happen in the next book.

As with all good trilogies there is an ending but there are also a lot of dangling threads making you want to know what's going to happen next, so you may want to have the third book, 'The Sage' handy.
