De eenzame in de herfst : essays por Jacques Kruithof
Herhaalde malen diverse hoofdstukken gelezen, o.a. 2010, 2011, en 2x in 2021. Een scherp denker die ook scherp schrijft en zeer goed formuleert. Hij lardeert zijn teksten met citaten in Frans, Duits, Engels, Latijn. Ik ben er nog niet uit welke essay het beste of het meest actueel is. Blijvend actueel is het essay over Steiner. Bij het stuk over de Franse componist Olivier Messiaen wordt Kruithof persoonlijk: ieder die bij hem thuis mocht komen was in de gelegenheid naar muziek te luisteren en er met hem over te praten of essays in wording te bespreken. Zelf had ik ook de eer hem te mogen vergezellen naar het concert van de Stones in de RAI, dat hij even in het boek Slotfeest noemt. Terug naar het essay over Messiaen; hier schreef ik bij: "fantastisch, geweldig als je zo kunt schrijven"… (mais)
A Dutch historical novel set in the late Fifteenth Century. While the story is interesting the structure of the book is confusing and hence the telling of the story isn't very compelling. The book is interesting because there aren't many historical novels about this period and the author claims that the historical characters are his ancestors.
This historical novel in Dutch was very well done, with both an interesting plot and structure, based on historical sources and against the background of the Eighty Years War and religious conflicts in the Netherlands of the Sixteenth Century.
Geen gemakkelijk boek om te lezen. Het speelt zich af in 1468 en het taalgebruik is echt uit die tijd, met veel 'ouderwetse' woorden en uitdrukkingen, latijn en frans. Hardop lezen wil dan nog wel eens helpen. Helaas heb ik nóg niet begrepen wat er nu met het echtpaar Jacob en Katelijne gebeurd is.
