Constantinople: Birth of an Empire por Harold Lamb
Harold Lamb was a prolific popularisor of the more sensational historical periods. He was quite popular in the 1930's, 40's and 50's. if you are looking for a quick dash through the period covered by the historian Procopius' "Secret history" written in the opular style of the last century, here it is. Quite a fun read but, not an insightful book.

“I enjoyed it, lots of information that was new to me such as Ghengis Kahn’s original name, that he was not always at the head of a marching army, and that he conquered most of Asia. It was a really nice book. In my opinion, he was more successful than Alexander the Great.”

A sensational biography of the first emperor of the west by a popularizer of violent medieval monarchs. there is not much to be found here that is not in a translation of the medieval biography, but it is more direct than the "Song of Roland". Lamb was extremely popular as a writer of the adventure-pulp genre, and echoes of his works are found in the Indiana Jones" Canon.
