Another sweet and fun addition to the Savvy series. This one takes place 10 years after the first and is about Mibs's younger sister Gypsy. The story starts when the Beaumont family finds out that their non believer grandma with Alzheimer's must come to live with them. In addition somehow all their savvys get switched for basically the opposite of what they had before. There is a lot here about learning your own true nature and a good message about learning to see your elders as whole people outside of their role as your parent or grandparent. A really sweet story, with stellar characterization for both Gypsy and all the secondary characters. Good sense of place, lovely descriptions and fun scenes involving the new savvys. If you've read the other two books you'll love this one. If you haven't read Savvy and Scumble yet, you need to get right on that.… (mais)

This is a wonderful story of a young girl who learns you don't always get what you want but that you can make do with what you do get if you're resourceful. Whimsical and charming. This is the sort of children's book that even though there is a lesson running through it, the lesson is buried so deeply within the enchanting story that you don't feel knocked over the head with it. Both boys and girls will love this story and what's more will want a savvy of their own. I know I do.

This second book was just as enchanting as the first, Savvy. Wonderful world building. I wish I had a savvy and I'm sure that every child who reads this book wishes the same thing. The author has tapped into the magical realm where children reside before adult life beats wonder out of them. And there's even a lesson. But like the very best writing, the message is woven through the beautifully told story instead of whacking the reader over the head. In this case basically the lesson to be learned is that we shouldn't just let life happen to us but rather we should think through our choices and choose the best/wisest one and then follow through.

I loved Ledger. He was a charming boy. The secondary characters were well done. The savvies were all entertaining. I was glad to see Rocket (best name ever) get control of his savvy and get a girl. I hope Ms. Law is not done with the series. I would love to see Ledger's little sister, Fedora, when she gets her savvy.

Just started and it seems intriguing enough.

It was a good read. I think it was a sweet early love story between Mibs and the preacher's son (LOVE those guys). And then basically trying to figuring out who you are and what it all means in life. For the Beaumonts this discovery happens very specifically on their 13th birthday, which is kind of nice. I mean, I've been trying to figure myself out for years and I am definitely older than 13!

Would be fine for 4th grade through young high school ages. No cussing or inappropriate scenes. I passed it to my 9 year old to read when he's ready.… (mais)
