Another enjoyable story in the Promises series (all the stories in this series are written as stand alone books) and another well written story by this author. I appreciated the two main characters in this story and enjoyed getting to know them and watching them getting to know each other. It was time well spent.

Sonja Thorseth has secretly stole away from the wagon train taking her and her father West. She has briefly encountered a man who showed her some kindness and has decided to follow him wherever he is going. Sonja has a secret that she believes would ruin her father and so she has fled to save him from humiliation.

Thaddeus Staley is the kind man who helped Sonja out one day. He is headed to Santa Fe to set up his medical practice and has joined a wagon train headed that way. Sonja will soon be discovered following this group and will be captured. She is not in good condition when found and only knows the "kind man" who helped her. So Thaddeus will be given charge over her and will help her heal.

Thaddeus has no desire to enter into any relationship with any woman, especially after his disastrous marriage. Sonja doesn't trust any man, but for some reason, trusts Thaddeus. So these two will eventually marry for the convenience and help they both can be to each other. Without giving too much away, this marriage will stretch both of them in ways I was surprised. There will be sorrow in this story, but joy comes in the morning, and both Sonja and Thaddeus will find great joy in the end. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to, and my stay in Santa Fe.

This book is in the "Promises" series but each story is a stand alone and written by different authors. This story is the first book Sherrie Lord wrote and she did a great job! She wasn't afraid to make her characters real and less than perfect and also wasn't afraid to show how much a person can change when they accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. I also learned a lot about how a radio station is run, which was also a plus.

Colin Michaels runs KDMD Diamond Country radio station and is a looker and a player when it comes to the ladies. He also has a weight of guilt on his shoulders from a tragic accident that happened years ago. Enter Emily, who lands a job at the radio station and who is young and saving herself for when she meets, falls in love with, and marries the man of her dreams. Although she is fresh and sweet, she also thinks fast on her feet and her and Colin begin to "hit it off" as friends of course. Emily too has things in her life she is struggling to get past. It is enjoyable to watch these two fall in love, even though Emily realizes it can't go anywhere because he is not a believer, but it is even more fun to watch Colin hit rock bottom and come to know the Lord and realize what a difference that can make in ones outlook on life. Well done Sherrie. Looking forward to reading more by this author. And looking forward to reading more in this "Promises" series.… (mais)
