This is the first book I have read by Emily Ann Loveall and it's also the first in the Keeper Series. It has definitely left me eagerly awaiting he next book. Not only by this author, but also in this series. There was definitely a slow buildup in many of the aspects of this book but I'm sure that's relative to it being the first book in the series. There was definitely some really great world building happening and with it being the first book in the series, we got a great backstory and understanding of the main characters.

The focus was definitely on the action side of things but the dash of romance intertwined within was a recipe for success for me. I was completely immersed in the world the author created for us and I was hooked from the first page to the last. The only thing I wished was different was that I had read it slower because now I'm left waiting for the second book! I think there is still so much left to explore and I'm sure there is going to be so much more to learn as the series goes on.

Set in a world both familiar and unfamiliar, The Keeper's Apprentice offers an interesting glimpse into what our world would be like if a certain percentage of the population possessed magic. These Movers hold their secrets close even as they interact with the world around them.

The writing was easy to follow even if it took some time to sort out the different types of magic and follow the threads of the story. The main character's father has been missing for several years, and she is determined to find out what happened to him especially after an orb containing his magic shows up during the course of the investigation. Add to that her feelings for her new Master, Colin Dyson, and her hopes to convince him to break the rules to enter a relationship with her and the plot heats up quickly.

There are some places where editing would have help catch minor mistakes, but overall, this was a fascinating beginning to a new series.
