The author tackles a big topic in a small book. The first couple of chapters, about physics, are easy to read without a lot of jargon, which is unusual for a physicist. When he gets further on, and begins on biology, the writing becomes so jargon laden that a lay person would probably abandon it quickly. Moreover, as a biologist, I found that when physicists begin writing about biology, sooner or later I will get the urge to begin yelling bullshit at the top of my voice. The errors would not seem major to a lay person, but in fact, they do make a difference. And the biology chapters read like a graduate textbook. Why? Perhaps he understood the biology much less, and therefore was not as able to explain it in lay terms? I'm sure I don't know. What I do know is that there are better books on the subject.… (mais)

Some straightforward chapters on physics and cosmology followed by some difficult ones on biochemistry.
