Absolutely loved this book. If you’re looking for a mystery/thriller then you’ve found the right one. The twists in this book keep you from putting it down. You think you figured it out but new twists come out and surprise snd shock you all over again. Hauntingly amazing

Ever since the death of Jamie McGuiness' older sister, Emer, things have been difficult in the McGuiness household. Jamie's father has developed a drinking addiction and become abusive to both him and his mother. Jamie often escapes to the lighthouse, where his sister was found, to feel comfort. While there, another spirit attaches to Jaime and shows him the secrets of her and his sister's death. However, the spirit wants something in return, something that Jamie may not survive.

A chilling and surprising paranormal horror. Beneath the Lighthouse is aimed at the Young Adult audience, but is definitely enjoyable for adults as well. Set in Ireland, there are some cultural and slight language differences, but nothing that could not be understood. Jamie's character was wonderfully done, he has Asperger's, but this is not a large part of his character. Jamie leads the normal life of a teen, or as normal as he can make it with his family. Jamie is caring, brave and protective of his family, he also manages life around him with tragedies happening at his home. The suspense in the writing gradually builds, leaving me to believe that I had everything figured out, only to unleash at the end. I enjoyed that the ghost was very much her own character with feelings and a purpose. The only thing that bothered me was how the story moved from present day, to the weeks of Emer's death and then the flashbacks to the deaths through the ghosts eyes. All of the hops made the timeline a little choppy.

This book was received for free in return for an honest review.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
*Trigger warning for this book: domestic violence, rape, gore, emotional and physical abuse of minor children.

I was intrigued by the cover and the blurb. I refused to read any other reviews until I was more than halfway through the book, and honestly, I'm glad I did. I just wish I had been given warning to some of the content.
I liked the plot, but the Northern Ireland slang kept throwing me for a loop and at first, I was going and finding translations, but it just slowed down the reading for me; so I gave up and just added my own words if I needed to.
Jamie McGuiness is a 16-year-old boy who is haunted by the ghost of a traveller girl. She sees him at the lighthouse where his sister died 3 years prior and starts to haunt him, and eventually possess him.
There are so many twists and turns in this book! I couldn't keep up with them all, and every time I thought I figured things out, something new was thrown in and I just had to keep reading to figure out exactly what was going on.
This book will stay with me for quite some time, due to the complexity it presented in the overall plot. Things I never thought about came to light and it was just creepy all around. If you are OK with reading about the things mentioned at the beginning of this review, run to pick up your copy and get started down this twisty path!

--I received a free copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review—

This story really makes you go through a range of emotions. Love, sadness, loss, anger… It’s all there. After a few chapters, I became hooked and didn’t want to put it down.

The story is from the point of view of girl named Jacinta Kelly. It starts off with Jacinta coming back to Ireland after being gone for 6 years due to the death of her mother. Then, through a series of flashbacks to different key points in her life, you learn about the difficult past she had while growing up. After losing her father at a young age, her mother became withdrawn and depressed. Jacinta was separated from her mother for 2 years while her mother got treatment, but her mother was just never the same. Top that off with being bullied, becoming distant from her best friend, falling in love and the constant abuse from her mother. This is a girl who has gone through a whole lot in a ten year period of her life.

The author did a wonderful job with his story and I would highly recommend it to any and all of my friends.
