Hugh MacDonald (1945–)

A haunting tale of sacrifice, survival and self-discovery. I enjoyed reading how the characters struggled with their decisions, their sense of identity and how it related to the world around them as it changed before their eyes. How all these decisions stemmed from what they had been indoctrinated with up to that point in their lives within a fairly regimented social system that favours women ('insiders') and relegates men ('outsiders') to a very limited subservient role.

I kept turning the pages, anxiously reading on to see what Nora would do, keenly observing how she changes because of the choices she makes and who she comes into contact with.

I have to wonder though, with the way it ended, if Hugh MacDonald might have a sequel in the works!… (mais)
