A funny, thoughtful book about the much derided state of Britain’s railways. It even includes an unusually thoughtful chapter on railway modelling, are modellers cool or unutterably nerdish? The problem I found is that the author came across as so self-consciously cool: I’m so cool that I smoke weed in train toilets. He comes across as a bright articulate version of the middle aged man who never quite got over the values of a teenager: I celebrate alcohol, marijuana and tobacco, and don’t care if anyone else is affected by my immature selfishness.… (mais)

In my view, this is a very special book that connects pieces of biography with most aspects a railway buff may look for in a very clever and funny way.

Didn't like it. The book seemed to be more of an anthology of previous work that had been edited out of the final published copy - in other words straight from the WPB to the publisher. It will pass away a journey on a train but you'll want to leave it there. Nothing worth coming back to.

I enjoyed reading this book it is the tale of Ian and Perry undertaking the task of going on the largest Pub crawl in Britian from Isle of Sciliys to the outer shetland isles.
They meet some interesting characters along the way. Have a few funny ancedotes to tell aswell. Easy to read book it also gives you a history of drinking and Pub life in general.
