Samantha is the future Queen and Robrek is to become her husband. Robrek has magic and a lot of people aren't happy with the union. Their happiness is short lived when they learn that a curse is spreading among their people and the Soul Stone is the cause. Can Robrek stop the curse? And at what cost? I enjoyed this tale, it was a mixture of fantasy and action and the two main characters were well written. You can read this as a stand alone novel without being confused. I would recommend this book to fantasy book lovers.… (mais)

Let me just start out by saying: this book was fantastic! I wasn't sure at first if I would enjoy it; the first chapter involves Robrek, known as Robbie at the beginning, speaking to animals with his mind. My skepticism quickly turned to intrigue as it is revealed that Robrek is an amihealer, or someone who is completely in tune with animals and can heal them. Not everyone saw his gifts for what they were; people were scared of him and some even wanted him dead. His powers only continued to grow as the novel progressed, and it was exciting to see him go from a meek, abused teenager to a confident man. My favorite character in the book by far was Princess Samantha. She was independent, fierce, and not afraid to get her hands dirty. It's always nice to read a book with a truly remarkable female protagonist, and Samantha certainly was. She also had powers; she could read people's auras, although at first she thought she was going crazy. She finally does learn more about her ability, but it does not make things easier. In fact, it makes life harder because she has to keep this fact hidden or the she risks losing everything.

Talk about a power couple, Robrek and Samantha together are a force to be reckoned with. It doesn't start out that way however. Robrek is the son of a farmer and Samantha, being the future Queen of Korthlundia, has to choose someone of nobility to marry. They meet by chance and have an instant connection, but they both know nothing can come from it. It's an exciting journey watching each of them grow and mature, and seeing them tear down the obstacles in their way.

Speaking of obstacles, if you love a book with an incredibly monstrous villain, then you will really appreciate Duke Arblutal. Not only was he a sexual sadist, he also had his sights set on the crown at any cost. He was diabolical, cruel, and calculating. Just when I thought I couldn't hate him anymore than I already did, he would do something even more heinous to outrage me.

I think the hardest part while reading was keeping track of all of the characters. There were a lot, and it got confusing at times. The author was nice enough to put a listing of all of the characters in the back of the book, so if you get a little lost you can quickly remind yourself who's who.

For sensitive people, I feel like I should warn you there are some upsetting scenes. There is a lot of violence throughout, so if this is not something you are into, then this is probably not the book for you.

I simply couldn't put this book down, it was so full of adventure, twists, magic, and romance. If you're in the mood for an amazing fantasy book, then you absolutely have to check out The Goddess's Choice by Jamie Marchant.

I will say this is a solid 3 star book. It is a good read but has a few technical issues. The flow on story stutters at places and there were a few misses in the editing. Nothing major but another pass through would help to catch a few typos.

This story great bones with this story and a strong character in the grandmother. I like her quite a bit actually. Strong and determined. She is well written. As is the friendly (okay maybe a little too friendly) homeless guy. I liked him though, much more than the granddaughter. She drove me nuts but that is actually the sign of an interesting character. Don't expect a classic but do expect to be surprised and an enjoyable effort from a writer who has potential.… (mais)

A Mystical Love Story Gone Right

Boy meets girl, girl and boy fall in love, boy must help girl save the kingdom. This story has everything a love story should have. A beautiful girl who has the world at her feet except for a boy to love her and not her crown. The handsome boy has nothing. His family and village disperse him and think that he is the devil incarnate until he meets the girl of his dreams. Together can they save the kingdom from the real evil?

I love this story and the author did a fantastic job with the characters. Not just the human characters but the animals as well. The entire cast gelled together to make the plot exceptional. When an author can make animals seem so real with their mystical powers, as the reader is brought into the story, it makes for a powerful duo.

It was a predictable story with a predictable ending. There was not real guessing as to what could happen next but I have to say I loved that about this book. Sometimes it is best to keep it simple. There definitely needs to be a follow-up to this book.
