The circus fire July 6, 1944 killed 168 people. Several years later Rick Davey a fire investigator takes it upon himself to identify a little girl who was buried as one of the unidentified dead. He reads through much information collected at the Connecticut State Library. As he researches he finds that a young man employed by the circus admitted to setting the fire shortly after the fire, yet he was never charged. Rick compiles much evidence of this arsonist. His sense of justice kicks in and he feels the need to present it to the authorities. The FBI agrees with him verbally regarding charges.

Back shortly after the fire a number of high level circus employees are sentenced without a trial and jailed. The city officials claimed that the circus could be liable for millions of dollars in damages and they wanted to protect the circus. In actuality, they were afraid of the city/state being sued partly because the circus was under insured, the city failed to inspect the circus before the performance and the city did not collect a certificate of insurance before the performance. These were all things that were normally done in the past. Corruption at its best.

This is a very special book for the survivors of the circus fire but even more so for the families of the victims as it provides us with some idea of what happened that day.

It is well put together but is a hard read due to the subject matter.
